Have now started trying to do an hours work at lunch to try and catch up on the mountain of drawing that needs to be done. Two days and two extra hours done. It might be the answer.
Busy putting the river names in. Do pilgrims want every river they cross named? Also is 7 pt too big?
Took the latest sample around to show some people yesterday. Talked to the people at Wanderlust Travel Store here in Vancouver and they liked the map. The colours where a hit and they liked the size. Both them and Dwight at Travel Bug (another travel store here in Vancouver) mentioned that the binding should be coil bound. They said this would enable the map to open out flat. We would need the coils to be covered so the map has a spine.
I guess it is really a question of cost. If coil binding with a cover over the coils is cheap enough it may be the amswer. I am just a bit worried about how durable it would be. We don’t want the map to fall apart.
Work is slowly, children are delaying progress! We need to organize our time better and not get so worn out looking after the kids.
We’re happy with the way our test map looks when it’s printed on our laser printer (Lexmark C510, in case you’re interested). But we’ve asked our favourite printer (Hignell in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) to produce a digital colour proof calibrated to their presses so that we can get a more accurate idea of how the colours will work together on the final map.
Back in Vancouver, the weather and work is thwarting our weekly hikes. Sundays seem to be unfailingly rainy. Still, dim sum was a welcome alternative last week. And although tomorrow and Saturday look exceedingly rainy, Sunday is cloudy with just a 30% chance of showers. We’ll take it!
The last proof of styles and colours is done and now we need to up date our maps and replace the old ones. Seems like we have gone way back just to now after a month of work start going forward again. To think we thought we were going to be going to press around now. Ha! How little we knew! Just need to keep on cracking away at it in small chunks and soon it will be done.
We need to have some of it done so we can send it out to our road testers this spring. Maybe we should draw backwards from Santiago?
