Drawing the symbols is so great. The map really comes alive with all the pretty bits added. We now have a section ready to be taken on the camino at the end of the month. A road test! We have cut down on the trees too. Now adding too many celtic castles. Can you have too many?
It was good to get a post from Yukon Wendy too! Still looking for the answer to my facebook question though. It seems to also be the week for camino reunions. An article about us appeared in the vancouver sun newspaper and as there really is a huge centralization of the media in Canada it has appeared in the Ottawa Citizen and some other papers. It has spurred some people we met on the road to get in touch. It is always wonderful to catch up with people. Also heard from our friend Lucy who helped us edit the second edition. She is riding her bike around South America for a year. The stars must be all lined up or something wierd.
Hope to have the symbols finished by the end of next week and then we can add the text boxes and profile charts. Our aim is to have it ready for checking by the middle of Sept so off to the printers by mid-end Oct. Out in shops in Jan 08. Thinking about it it may actually happen.
Ok so how many trees are enough and how many too few? How close together should they be and should they be regularly spaced out or just random? Who knew that the simple tree symbol could cause so much confusion and I have only done one map so far!
What symbol works best for a fountain? I am thinking of a capital F if the font is sanserif it looks ok ” F “like this one. Looks like a symbol already and doesn’t need a lot of explaining because fountain and fuente .
Had a break for a couple of days to finish painting our front porch before the monsoon season arrives and rip up a friend’s basement floor. It is amazing how doing a few days manual labour makes one realize how lucky it is just to sit in front of a computer screen.
Does anyone know spanish for facebook?
We have updated our website updates for both our books so check them out before you go.

At last we are almost getting ahead of ourselves. The marking of the camino is much faster then we thought and there maybe a rough version for our researchers to take with them at the end of the month on a trial run. We have to thank the local city workers strike for enabling us to have more time to work on the map. May not be good for the bank balance but it has meant that we can catch up with things on the map front.
We would love to have everything but the profile charts and the Text Boxes to be done by the end of the month. We might then have time to add our city plans to the project so that will aid navigation through the 4 major cities along the route. We are also thinking of adding a list of accommodation for the route. As just a list at the back of the book. Listing number of beds and maybe telephone #. We shall see how much time we have. Hopefully we can then send everything to the printers in October and the map would be out Jan 08. Sounds good lets see if it happens.
Cooked a seafood paella over a open fire last week. WOW. It takes a lot longer to cook then using the oven but the flavor of the fire was so fantastic. We had local caught prawns, salmon and halibut in it as well as local mussels and clams. Looking back I think it was the best one I have ever cooked. It fed 30 people. Managed to find a huge paella pan at the local hardware store. Can’t wait to do it again. Maybe for a map launch party!
